Due to overwhelming response to our previous video of Burt Goldman, we’ve managed to speak to the producer of these videos to share with us a few more insights into the beautiful mind of our favorite American Monk.

Here’s a great video taken from his recent seminar in Anaheim California:

—

Think your an old dog that can’t learn new tricks?

Think again.

—

Burt Goldman, The American Monk, describes a method on how anyone can use meditation techniques to learn a new skill and discover inspiring insights.

Burt used this technique to develop a new style of photography that has been inducted at the International Photography Hall of Fame, in Oklahoma.

He’s somehow has a new relationship with age that allows him to transcend the belief that we can’t learn new skills once we grow older.

BURT IS 80 YEARS OLD!

Here’s the proof:

Here’s a sampling of the photographs featured at the International Photography Hall of Fame created from the techniques described in the video:

This duet of presentations from the 2006 and 2007 TEDTalks are some of the most enlightening talks I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to.

A previous advisor of the World Health Organization and co-founder of the Gapminder Foundation, Hans Rosling’s poignant humor and advanced thinking helps to clarify the myths and misconceptions regarding so-called 1st World and 3rd World Nations.

Statistics was never one of my more favorite subjects. However, imagine if statistics was described through a series of graphics that can go on to transform our misconceptions about what is a developing and developed nation.

Last night, a distraught friend came to me for some advice on some on going drama happening in his life. He explained that even though he was in tune with the Law of Attraction, manifestation, and positive thinking, but he would always find himself in a position of self-doubt and nagging considerations. In turn, his doubts and considerations would manifest and sabotage his goals and intentions.

The power of negative Attraction is just as powerful as positive Attraction.

So, for my friend, and for all of you out there who have experienced these kinds of drops in confidence, here’s a great guide from Lyndon Antcliff on quick ways you can improve your self esteem.

Ten quick tips to improve your self esteem

1. Do what you love.
Everyone loves to do something, when you indulge yourself in your love you improve the way you feel about yourself. You improve your self esteem.

2. Help others out.
Nothing makes you feel a warm glow than when you unselfishly help others. of course you can argue that this in itself is selfish, but if you take that line of thought you must think that existence is selfish. Forget that. Just do a good deed, help someone out, doesn’t have to be big and it doesn’t have to cost any money.

3. Acknowledge your strengths
There is no one who has no strengths. Everyone is good at something, know what your good at and give yourself a pat on the back. Do things that bring this quality out into the open. Excercise it, make it stronger.

4. Don’t put up with crap.
There is no reason you should tolerate other people being mean to you. Even if they say they are doing it with love. Make sure people know they should be nice to you and if they refuse, walk away from them.

5. Drop your negative friends.
Hang out with people who are positive and support you. It may be fun to bitch and moan but if you hang out with these types of people you will eventually become one of them. You may have noticed that people who bitch and moan are never happy.

6. Do your research
A lot of self help books are a waste of time in the sense that the only person who can change you is you. Reading even this blog post will not change you unless you get emotionally involved with the information. Which is really hard as it’s really dry and boring. Go read biographies of people you respect, people who do positive things and attain huge success. Learn from the master not the self help guru who is always in debt.

7. Learn to accept compliments.
It’s hard to accept a compliment and not to dismiss it as being ridiculous. Someone has an opinion and it should be respected, even if you do not argree with it. If people think good about you then maybe you should too.

8. Include positivity in your life.
I’m not talking an airy fairy chant in the mirror whilst naked. I mean take a positive slant on everything automatically. The meat pie you just bit in to may contain maggots, but maggots contain a lot of protien. OK that’s a bit extreme but you get the point.

9. Compare yourself against yourself.
If you look at how you were yesterday and how you are today and there is an improvement then that is great. If there is no improvement then you know you need to improve your efforts. Don’t start comparing your self to other people. Saying you are poor compared to D. Trump is just going to make you miserable.

10. There is no need for you to put yourself down.
Try seeing yourself in a negative light you are only reinforcing your low self esteem. If you want to improve your self esteem. Ask yourself, how can I improve my self esteem. The answer will always be, find one positive thing about yourself and that will do it.

Thanks for the awesome list Lyndon!

Welcome to the Tuesday of your life!

I find that Tuesdays are far worse than Mondays when it comes to the post-weekend blues. Tuesday is when most people have already snapped out of their Monday depressions and the work-week starts its trot into productivity. However, after a long, fun and tiring weekend, getting productive can be one of the hardest things to do.

Don’t you wish you could stay motivated easier and more often?

Instead of a broad “I WANT TO STAY MOTIVATED” intention, it is important to remember that your life operates day by day. Instead, intend to motivate yourself one day at a time.

But in order to do this, consider this great list of habits that you can adopt in order to start moving your thoughts forward daily!

Motivation is a key to success. If you are a motivated person, then you will very likely be success in everything you do. In fact, research shows that motivation is the key behind the expert minds. People who are motivated will be very successful in their learning process. And so will in other areas of life.

The problem is, it’s not easy to be motivated, let alone be motivated for the whole day. There are times when challenges and problems strike us and make us feel bad. Or maybe there is no real problem, but we just feel that our energy level is low throughout the day.

Well, don’t let this happens. Be motivated and energized throughout the day ! Here is how:

Rise early
I don’t know about you, but for me, rising early is a kind of magic. It makes me feel more enthusiastic and energized throughout the day. Maybe it’s because by rising early I can start the day fresh without having to rush on everything. I would have more time to be prepared mentally and physically to face the day.

Pick “quote of the day”
Pick your favorite quote in the morning and keep it in mind throughout the day. Of course, the quote should be something that motivate and inspire you. Then speak out the quote to yourself throughout the day, especially when you think that you need extra motivation. This way, it will be easier to get rid of negative thoughts because you always have something positive to say to yourself.

Find the positive side of everything
One main cause for losing motivation is thinking negatively about the events which are happening to us. Every time you think negatively about something, you actually lose a part of your energy. Do it for the whole day and you will feel very exhausted and even intimidated.
So find the positive side of everything. There must be something positive we can get from everything that happens to us. If your effort end up in failure for example, then you know that you can learn something from it. And learning is a positive thing. If you must do something boring, just think of a useful thing you can get from it. There is always positive side on everything, so focus on it and not the negative one.

Focus on giving
Contributing to others is always motivating. It works for me. I don’t know why, but maybe it’s because by doing so I become less focused on my own problems. It doesn’t mean that I run from the problems, it just means that the problems seem less daunting and intimidating. Why ? Because I’m not just thinking about myself.

Also, there is something about giving that gives you extra happiness. Brighten someone else’s life today and somehow your life will also be brightened.

Decide to be a winner
It is your decision that makes the difference between winning and losing. Nothing can make you lose if you don’t allow it to do so. So decide to be a winner. If you decide to be a winner then you will be tough and brave when facing all challenges throughout the day. You will not let problems overcome you. Instead, you will go out and conquer those problems ! You are the winner, so who can resist you ?

What is Positive Placebo Effect?

In order to understand what the positive placebo effect, here’s an example on what a placebo is:

A famous experiment was once conducted on the power of suggestion and the effects of alcohol on a group of people. A group of subjects are given measured doses of non-alcoholic drinks, but told that the drinks are alcoholic. Eventually, the group of subjects started ‘experiencing‘ the effects of the ‘alcohol‘ in their bodies, when in reality received none at all! Read more about the experiment here.

However, imagine being able to scientists from several prolific medical institutions have come across evidence that patients are able to improve the healing effects of proper medication through the power of positive thinking.

So how does the power of positive placebos affect medication?

Here’s a great article from Lauran Neergaard from the Associated Press that describes the positive placebo effect.

Your medicine really could work better if your doctor talks it up before handing over the prescription.

Research is showing the power of expectations, that they have physical — not just psychological — effects on your health. Scientists can measure the resulting changes in the brain, from the release of natural painkilling chemicals to alterations in how neurons fire.

Among the most provocative findings: New research suggests that once Alzheimer’s disease robs someone of the ability to expect that a proven painkiller will help them, it doesn’t work nearly as well.

It’s a new spin on the so-called placebo effect — and it begs the question of how to harness this power and thus enhance treatment benefits for patients.

“Your expectations can have profound impacts on your brain and your health,” says Columbia University neuroscientist Tor Wager.

“There is not a single placebo effect, but many placebo effects,” that differ by illness, adds Dr. Fabrizio Benedetti of Italy’s University of Torino Medical School, who is studying those effects in patients with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and pain.

The placebo effect is infamous from studies of new medications: Scientists often given either an experimental drug or a dummy pill to patients and see how they fare. Frequently, those taking the fake feel better, too, for a while, making it more difficult to tease out the medication’s true effects.

Doctors have long thought the placebo effect was psychological.

Now scientists are amassing the first direct evidence that the placebo effect actually is physical, and that expecting benefit can trigger the same neurological pathways of healing as real medication does. Among them:

–University of Michigan scientists injected the jaws of healthy young men with salt water to cause painful pressure, while PET scans measured the impact in their brains. During one scan, the men were told they were getting a pain reliever, actually a placebo.

Their brains immediately released more endorphins — chemicals that act as natural painkillers by blocking the transmission of pain signals between nerve cells — and the men felt better. To return to pre-placebo pain levels, scientists had to increase the salt-water pressure.

“Our brain really is on drugs when we get a placebo,” says co-researcher Christian Stohler, now at the University of Maryland. More remarkable, some especially strong placebo responders suggest “many brains can actually stimulate that (pain-relief) system more.”

Italy’s Benedetti gave Parkinson’s patients a placebo and measured the electrical activity of individual nerve cells in a movement-controlling part of the brain. Those neurons quieted down, a decrease in firing of about 40 percent that correlated with a reduction in patients’ muscle rigidity — they moved more easily.

To further prove the power of belief, Benedetti hooked pain patients to a computerized morphine injection system. Sometimes the computer administered a dose without them knowing it; sometimes a nurse pretended to give it. The morphine was up to 50 percent more effective when patients knew it was coming. (Read the Full Article Here)

Here’s a video from the Mythbusters demonstrating how positivity and suggestion can be used to treat seasickness, pay attention to Grant, one of the subjects, and the effects of a placebo on him:
